I always wanted to spend more time with Cher. Given the tumult of living, it was difficult to find the time. For twenty years Cher had a hula troop composed of dancers across the United States who took an annual trip to Hawaii to perform for the poor and underprivileged, the women in prison, and others. She was busy!
However, a few years after the death of my mom, we did have an opportunity to spend time together. We rented a two-bedroom house in Saint Louis Heights. We were there resolving issues regarding my mother’s condo and handling the incumbent paperwork, and, fortunately, we had some extra time to do things together.
I let Cher handle the scheduling. I really should have known better. We were on the move from morning to night . . late at night, meeting people, going to parties, donating supplies, making arrangements for her dance troop, buying dance supplies. I finally had to quit attending every event and let her go on. I was exhausted!
However, we did spend memorable moments talking and laughing about our lives before the whirlwind started every day. I remember thinking that there was plenty of time to catch up.
There wasn’t.
You two were the sweetest siblings and when you both came to visit our parents, they loved seeing you guys.
Lei – We always loved to come. It was special for Cher and I to see everyone!
