Trailblazers Got It Rough

One of the problems with bureaucracies is that they tend to maintain the status quo.  This is also a good point as long as the status quo is reviewed occasionally and updated.

In organizations that are longstanding and, especially, if they feel entitled, change happens slowly.  We are facing this dilemma as a society, particularly since our social structures are reaching their upper limits of efficiency.  Recently the police have been in the news in this regard.

Since I am firmly ensconced in a motel in the Merino Valley while the firefighters are battling the El Dorado fire (all around our house!), I have become acutely aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the fire management in the area.  I sent a note to the Facebook page of the San Bernardino Fire Department recognizing them for their ourstanding firefighting effort (!) and I also shared my thoughts on their weaknesses in communications and management.  😊

This was not received well as my thoughts were almost immediately deleted.

I don’t say that my ideas are offered on gold tablets, but I do think it is difficult to improve if you don’t listen . . . and I do think it is particularly difficult to improve bureaucratic organizations when you are a trailblazer (reference intended    😊      ).
