The Big Tell

I have always been fascinated with those movies featuring poker players winning a game that I view as chance.  I realize, by the way, that I am probably wrong; but, I don’t know enough about it to make an intelligent decision.  But, it is fun to watch!

And, a common theme is that someone would have a ‘tell’ which would telegraph the truth despite the fact that everyone knows about ‘tells’ and ostensibly is trying to avoid them.  It is amazing that the ‘teller’  is not aware of his foible, and therefore loses!

Why wouldn’t you know about this if this is your passion or your career?  I put it down to cinematic ‘suspension of belief’ in which we all participate, because it makes these stories interesting, even if they appear implausible.

And, then I realized that we have living proof that the ‘teller’ can be completely blind to his ‘tell’.

Consider this.  President Trump accuses Hillary Clinton of being a criminal and should be investigated (she was, by the way, investigated five times and nothing was found).  In reality, it is President Trump who is under investigation and is very likely a criminal guilty of, at least, obstructing justice.

And, of course, just recently he accused the Mueller probe of McCarthyism, when, in reality, Trump is doing the most realistic imitation of Joe McCarthy since the 1950’s.   Now, I could go on, but you get the idea.

So, here is the tell:

Whenever President Trump is guilty of something, he accuses the other person of being guilty of it

Think about the accusation from candidate Trump that Marco Rubio’s father was involved in the assasination of President Kennedy, and, by extension, the mafia.  Then think about Trump’s loyalty requirement.  Just think about what this says about our President!

I guess it is fun to watch on the screen, but not so much in the real life.   I wonder how much longer he can do it?

Even Joe McCarthy was eventually found out.!
