Receiving is Precious

My mom and I went to a restaurant with some friends.  We had saimin, and other great island specialties (abalone!).  At the end, my mom insisted on paying for the lunch for everyone.   It was a warm and wonderful occasion.

On other occasions, others tried to reciprocate, but to no avail.   That option was always off the table.  Fortunately, I was young and had the opportunity to learn that an important skill in life was the ability to receive gracefully.

Giving is rewarding to the soul, but, the ability to receive graciously is precious.
