Pass the Stella Artois

The model.  That’s what you always look for when you are trying to solve a difficult problem.  Once you have the model, you apply it to all problems of that type . . so you don’t have to reinvent the solution.

I used to think about this in terms of how beer was invented since that is not a simple process.  Lightning didn’t strike a pond in Belgium and then someone found a bottle of Stella Artois beer the next morning on the beach.  No. . . .

But, the question of how you resolve difficult problems on a large scale is to find a solution that works and then use that solution as a model.  Then you have to improve on it, document it, and use it.  Voilà you have a solution for all problems of that type (well, not all, but most).

So the fact that China and South Korea developed the model regarding the Corona virus, living through unimaginable horrors (that we won’t find out about for a long time), is a godsend.

Now, we only have to follow the model.  But, can we?

The major problem with our government at this moment in our history is that a majority in the government, including the President, doesn’t have skill in managing people, inspiring confidence, and using simple techniques such as this one to solve problems.  I would add intelligence to the list since we are being led by an 80 IQ President who graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.  I wonder what that cost   😊      .

But, the point is that the crisis calls for leadership, management skills, and an understanding and effective application of human technologies that have been developed over the last seventy years.

I have criticized the President for his ethics, behavior and intelligence.  But, I will re-suspend my judgement for awhile . . let’s see if Donald Trump is up to the challenge, while we discuss how impossible it was that beer was ever invented.
