Moments Before. What Would I Do?

I sometimes have thought about the last scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids . . being  chased by the military in Argentina.  They ran, and were pursued to a cliff.  They could either wait for the army or take a chance that the fall into the lake, far below, would kill them.  What to do?

That’s the thought.  I have always thought, logically, jump.

One day in 1969 I was doing my intrepid best as an exterminator for Aloha Pest Control in Kailua when the owner, a man in his 30’s, asked me what I would do if I knew the world was going to end in 30 minutes.  I had two choices, wait and watch it happen or have sex with a cute girl.  I thought it was a strange question   😊  .  But, he was the customer and I felt I should answer.  I said I could choose the cute girl.  He said to me,’It’s just your generation’.

My generation?

Why wait around for the inevitable doom?  One could say that is what we all do.  We are all mortal and one day it will all pass.

Why not act and enjoy what you have today?  A cute girl only adds to the fun    😊

  1. Aloha Bill,

I left a comment for Morey House the evening before your operation…and then forgot to post it! I had been so pleased with myself with such a piece of excellent writing. Ah, the folly of smugness. Then the next day, I noticed you had somehow squeezed in another post. I can appreciate your using every moment with effect. Nice.

An 84-year old Tsaiko who was living in Texas, suffered a “widow-maker” heart attack and under went a quadruple by-pass. Two months later, he was in the ocean in Hawaii and swimming one milers.

I believe the Good Lord wanted to make sure you were fully ready for the job ahead with Disaster Hawk. Couldn’t have you half-stepping along. Got too much to do, my friend! Now that the docs have you on your way to recovery, we have a lot to look forward to. 260 yd drives! 5 hr drives? No sweat. Create a unicorn? Inevitable!

Looking forward to hearing from you. In the mean time, keep writing and playing your guitar 🙂
