Memorial Park

Memorial Park at Clemson is really an inspiring place to be.  I walked there this morning.  It is across the street from the upper level of Clemson stadium, death valley to their football opponents,  and I read the inspiring messages and names of the soldiers from Clemson that embellish a stone barrier topped by a curved grass lawn.  Memorial Park!

As I was leaving I read the following from the base of the flagpole.  Freedom is not free.  I thought about it in a military context, and it’s difficult to argue that this was not precisely the case in the past.  But, how does it fare in the context of today’s world?

I think it does.  It is represented by all the women that are willing to come forward and confront the Supreme Court nominee for his behavior.  And, it is represented by the hundreds of lawyers who are fighting to reunite the families torn apart by Trump’s callous and impetuous decisions.  And, it’s represented by all the people who have taken to the streets.

I read about Lindsay Graham caving in to political pressure.  He used to be an example to me of non-partisan fairness.  He should read what he said in the 1990’s.  It was inspiring.
