I don’t understand why the Catholic church doesn’t just admit that it made a mistake and move on. Isn’t that what confession is all about? Well, perhaps there’s a higher standard for the clergy and the Pope. Perhaps they have to think about the future of the church and its reputation.
But, without question, everyone respects someone who owns up to his or her faults . . that allows us all to move on.
I would argue that the reputation, and therefore the future, of the church couldn’t be hurt more by what it’s doing. Everyone knows that they abused children for 75 years that we know of . . probably hundreds or even thousands of years. And, by not admitting they made a mistake, they look like they are covering it up.
You might think they were a bureaucracy and not an extension of god on earth.
