During the waning months of my high school experience at Waipahu High, I was recruited to affix a toilet to the grate in front of the library in the middle of the night. As the student body president, I considered it to be a poor example to be setting, so I tried to wriggle my way out of it. But, I did want to be a part of the high school experience, and, well, what could go wrong?
The toilet and chain were provided by Jack Swann, and I can vaguely remember that it was very dark as we crept along the stairway up to the library. Then there was some great commotion and we all started running. I don’t think I ended up in the cane fields near Mrs. Kim’s classroom, but I might have!
The next morning, before school, I do remember hearing that the janitors removed a toilet chained to the library. Who would do such a thing? 🙂
I thought about this yesterday as the Republicans stormed a security room to try and interrupt the Presidential Impeachment Hearings.
I smiled thinking about how much fun it was to do such a naughty thing . . a clandestine chaining of a toilet to a metal railing!
The big difference is that these legislators weren’t immature adolescents running around doing silly things, behaving like children.
Or, maybe they were.
