I Thought At This Age I Would Be Wise

There are only a few things that we all share with the rest of humanity . . birth and death.  The rest is somewhat of a crap-shoot and gives flavor to the cornucopia of life.  We, or at least I, can’t remember birth, so I will skip over that one.  But, for a majority of people in the world, we can see the omnipresent march toward eternity, getting closer each day, and we contemplate how we will handle it . . . if we even have an opportunity to make a decision and act.

René, my good friend in France who is almost precisely my age, told me there was no reason to hold back . . what are you saving your body for anyway?  So, they are in Spain playing golf every day . . exercising, eating and sleeping well.

Auntie Lily in her last minutes on Earth told my mom that she didn’t do a lot of the things she wanted to do . . just worked in her garden.  Maybe so, but I am sure there was a lot of love and good times spent there on that wonderful acre of red earth in Aina Haina.

As I think about it, I don’t think it matters what you did or where you went.  When the time comes you will be happy with what you have done; and despite the thought that some have done more than others . . not true.  We were all here together and we all contributed to the wonders that are all around us.
