I Just Had A Frightening Thought

I just had a frightening thought . . the past is never coming back.

It’s not just my mom and dad and Cher . . it’s the world that I once knew and took for granted.  It’s the years driving on 280, zigzagging through the mountains above Palo Alto.  It’s my birthday at Ala Moana with Uncle Dickie, mom and dad.  It’s the world where we respected the government and the people who were working for all of us . . to make this country and this world better.

If one exits the funiculaire and goes East, there is a railing, waist high that stretches the whole length of the front of Sacre Coeur.  From the railing you can see Montparnasse across the valley rising up like spike in the hillside near the Butte au Caille.  How many people have looked over the rail and seen love, and opportunity, and hope?  How many lives have been touched through the ages at this very spot.

Many, I am sure.  Me included.
