What exactly is your mind? In French there are several words . . there are thoughts, the spirit of a person, the mental state. Perhaps, more. But, when I ask the question, these are the responses I get.
I thought mind was ‘behind’ thoughts . . it determined how thoughts were processed . . the hardwiring (or softwiring) of how we managed our thinking processes. This was to be what was modified as we grew and became an ongoing part of how we ‘looked at the world’.
But, it doesn’t seem to exist in French. Does it not exist for French people because the language doesn’t allow for it? Or, does it not exist at all?
I remember a story about the Hopi Indians who had no future tense in their language . . therefore, they didn’t plan for the future. That, now, seems impossible. There must have been some way to talk and think about tomorrow. Right?
But, it is a fair question to ask: if it doesn’t exist in the language, does it not exist in the minds of the people who speak that language? Well, perhaps, that’s why we are not the United States of Hopi’s.
I could possibly be mistaken. I wonder if my mind is mistaken, or are my thoughts mistaken . . . or both?
