It has been an interesting trend. During the last election Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump were supported by the Russian establishment and both did surprisingly well during the election. Bernie, thinking that his election chances were sabotoged by the Democratic establishment, only begrudgingly gave Hilary Clinton his support. His reluctance was a remarkable early vote for the Donald Trump presidency.
When the unsurprising news came out recently that Bernie and Donald Trump continued to be favorites of the Russians, Bernie decided to go to war against both the Democratic and Republic establishments.
I would add only these thoughts:
Bernie Sanders has only the slimmest of chances to win a general election against Trump, especially considering he is eschewing the support of both the Republicans AND Democrats. Clearly, a vote for Bernie Sanders is a vote for Donald Trump, and that is why Donald Trump congratulated Bernie Sanders after his win in Nevada.
The Russian disinformation machine is favoring Bernie Sanders. There is some dispute about this; however, this was the case in 2016 and that strategy was very effective. The intelligence community knows that the Russians are out in full force this time supporting Trump. Are they likely to be supporting a candidate that can beat Trump?
Donald Trump’s efforts which resulted in him being impeached were directed at discrediting the Bidens by sowing misinformation and distrust. This illegal, widespread effort appears to have brought the expected results . . Biden’s popularity descended to new levels. It is an indication of how criminal activity can seriously damage the democratic process, even in the greatest democracy the world has ever seen, when the President is the malefactor.
I don’t know what I would do if I were Bernie. It’s a dilemma. Will his ego be the death knell of the 2020 election for the Democrats, or will he graciously relinquish the torch to someone who has a possible chance of winning?
Well, one thing we know for sure, gracious he is not.
