Check Your Stickum At The Door

Fred Biletnikoff was a great Oakland Raider receiver.  The playing pinnacle of his career was winning the Most Valuable Player Award in Super Bowl XI, with Oakland beating the Minnesota Vikings.   Fred used Stickum, a concoction of ingredients to make the ball stick to his hands.  You could catch a ball with one hand (one finger even).

The ‘Lester Hayes Rule’, which outlawed Stickum in the NFL, was put in place because, on one occasion after a play, they couldn’t pry the ball out of his hand.  Well, I always loved the Oakland Raider’s notorious style.  It was fun.

But the real question is this . .  is this really cheating if there isn’t a specific rule outlawing it?  For example, can you use a hormone to help you hit home runs if there isn’t a specific rule on the books right now that says it’s cheating?   Should you?

What about having values of fairness, kindness, respect for others without needing a rule to define what that is?  Where is your responsibility as a person?  Is it really checked at the door?  What if you really want to win the Super Bowl . .

. . . or the Presidency?
